God’s Call to God’s People
‘You are my witnesses and I am empowering you today with a mission to save the land you love’
This is a quotation from a prophecy* given to a sociologist and theologian, the Rev Dr Clifford Hill in 2006. In it God is expressing his concern for the nation as a result of the rise of secularism and false spiritualities.
God wants to give us a new boldness to be his witnesses through a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. He wants to give us Someone to talk about through a fresh encounter with our living Lord Jesus Christ.
In order to make us ready for this, God is calling us to repentance for unbelief, for fearfulness and a lack of trust in the Lord, for low standards of personal morality and a poor witness to the world.
The Lord is promising that such a spirit of repentance and a desire for holiness will bring about an outpouring of the Spirit of God that will spill over into many communities and light up the dark places and bring healing and love and joy to the people who walk in darkness.
Note * This is how the apostle Peter defines prophecy ‘prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit’. 2 Peter 1:24. One of the ways in which God speaks to us today is through prophecy.
